Mr Keshav Swarnkar

Mr Keshav Swarnkar

I have been a Consultant General Surgeon with a specialist interest in Colorectal Surgery at the Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport, since 2003. I am a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh (since 1996), and completed my formal surgical training in prestigious hospitals across England and Wales.

I hold a special interest in bowel cancer surgery and lead the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board (ABUHB) cancer multidisciplinary team where a range of healthcare professionals work together to deliver comprehensive and effective patient-centred care. I also treat patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (Ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s). I have extensive experience in caring for patients with haemorrhoids (piles), Fistula and Fissure and undertake HALO & RAR procedures for haemorrhoids facilitating faster recovery. I introduced laparoscopic (Keyhole) surgery and led initiative for enhanced recovery for bowel cancers at my Trust. I undertake keyhole and open surgery for all bowel related diseases.

I am an Honorary Clinical teacher in Surgery with Cardiff University and a recognised trainer of undergraduate medical students (Cardiff Medical School) and Postgraduate surgical trainees (Deanery of Wales). In addition, I enjoy my role as a Surgical Skills Tutor and Advanced Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery trainer affiliated to Welsh Institute for minimal access therapy (Cardiff) and Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh).
