What are Piles/Haemorrhoids?
Piles/ haemorrhoids is a condition associated with the anus (tail end). The most common symptom is painless loss of blood in stools. The blood is usually bright red and seen wipes or in the toilet. It can affect people of any age group and any sex. Some other symptoms include discomfort and a dull ache around the back passage.

What if I notice blood in stools?
Any blood in stools is abnormal and should be brought to prompt attention of GP. You will then be referred to specialist Consultant surgeon for an urgent consultation.

What tests will I need?
You will have a consultation and examination by the doctor, and they may propose certain internal telescope tests (e.g.: a colonoscopy) to assess the site of blood loss.

What is the treatment of piles?
Piles is common and can be treated in several ways. A large majority of cases can be managed by minor treatments in an outpatient clinic. A few, however, will need surgery to correct the problem.
